El Barri de Gràcia, the neighborhood where I grew up and have introduced to you in an early post, celebrated this past week their annual Festes del Barri. I was strolling around ´el barri' a week before the 'festes' started, they were already working on the decorations and roustabouts were mounting the Fair's attractions. Some of the attractions were already fully operational, and locals with their kids and families were roaming around enjoying the perks of been an early bird... no waiting on line! But the real celebration began on August 15th.
The party lasted for 7 days and 7 nights, and it was as much fun as ever! Many didn't do much sleep during that week, others decided to cut short their vacation out of the city, and returned to participate in a party that for most marks the end of summer. I wont tell on which group was I listed, I'll only say I was there when it all started as well as at the end of it... although I wished for it to last even longer! After all, partying is my life!
Like every year, and for almost two centuries, el barri de Gràcia has been celebrating its traditional neighborhood community party: Las Festes. More than 20 streets participate in the celebration, each of them reunites its neighbors who decorate their respective streets competing with each other for the prize of being the best adorned. Also, each street prepares a full program of activities for all group ages, where music plays a predominant role.

This year's 1st. Prize

2nd. Prize 'Gràcias Vida Gràcias' (Thank you Life, Thank you)

3rd. Prize was for Verdi street dedicated to Mexico.

Some preferred to use the occasion to give participation to physical and mental disabled children, like Igualada street below. 'La Colometa' the Little Dove.

Others chose to make a statement, and used their streets to raise awareness on sustainable development and other environmentaly related issues.
