You would think that by now I would have conquered my space... think again!
If you ask me, I thought so too, but my reality turned out to be somewhat different than what at the beginning I had imagined.
It has been my experience that you can basically find the same things here and there, and everywhere. It is the subtlety of the approach what makes the same different.
While in America in general, they still have to have a bunch of lemon trees to supply the demand of lemon wedges inside bottles of beer... In Europe, they have managed to merge the flavors already. So, if you are at the beach and want to savor a cold beer with a sour twist, you don't have to worry running out of spice... your only worry would be running out of beer!
In both continents they still work 8 hours a day, approximately that is... But, while in the West they only break for an hour to swallow a quick bite... the East will break for anything between two to four hours for a not so quick and better chewed morsel... and would usually do it at home!
While the frantic way of living of the West leaves you with little, or no planning at all for your personal stuff... in the East, if you don't carefully plan ahead for your basics, you risk finding yourself with nothing to eat on the weekend, and a black hole made out of restaurant bills sucking up on your budget! I know so, been a victim of it already!
I confess, I still have trouble conciliating the fact that a pharmacy here stands for prescription or OTC drugs only! That supermarkets close at 2 pm on Saturdays, and don't open up for business until Monday morning. That even big department stores, or big malls are closed on Sundays, and if I wanna have sandwiches on Sunday... I'll better stock enough bread on Saturday!
That banks have never heard of extended hours... Summer is a season for long days and short office hours... Eating light means lots of veggies not a combo at McDonald's, and "sugar free" means no sugar at all!
